Dr Who Ride In Dalek

Out of all the Dr Who toys that we have seen this year it’s the Dr Who Ride In Dalek that has got us the most excited!

 
We first got to see the Ride in Dalek at this year’s Toy Fair back in Janurary and the anticipation has been growing ever since!  Doctor Who fans are going to go crazy over this amazing inflatable battery powered Dalek.

Since this toy hit the headlines over the last week with a number of retailers predicting it will be one of the hottest toys for Christmas 2011 pre-sales have increased by a massive 230% which is huge!
 

So let’s take a better look at the Dr Who Ride In Dalek.
Well to start with this isn’t just any ordinary inflatable, the designers and makers of the Ride In Dalek called Kids@Playhave designed a unique and patented concept of an inflatable body attached to a high density plastic base thus making this Dalek extremly safe and child friendly.

The actual Dalek inflatable body is made from a mixture of ballistic nylon/laminated rubberised polyvinyl which is soft and tactile to the touch and so makes the Ride in Dalek very durable, structurally safe, tear resistant and easy to inflate and assemble.
This of course is the most important consideration for parents and at a high price tag, parents are going to want something that can stand up to some strong playtime fun!
The Dalek has a 6v battery powered motor which gives it a 360 degree steering and a maximum speed of 3km per hour.
The battery is re-chargeable and comes complete with country specific charger.
The steering wheel has 10 authentic Dalek phrases that are button activated.
The ride-in Dalek comes with flashing lights for an atmospheric glow, giving the child the maximum realistic feeling of being in the Dalek and moving around like a Dalek. 

This really is one of the best toys we have seen for Doctor Who fans and kids really are going to go crazy over this amazing toy.

With the release of Cars 2 upon us and already destined to be one of this summers mega-blockbusters Lego has released it’s new range of Lego Cars 2 sets.  The first set we have taken a look at is the Lego Big Bentley Bust Out which is based on one of the exciting scenes towards the end of the movie where our hero Lightning McQueen has been captured and is being held  captive in Big Bentley which of course is supposed to resemble Big Ben in London.    If you would like to find out more information on the real Big Ben just click here.

But just like all good spy films help is at hand for our hero as super spy Finn McMissile, Agent Matar and Holley Shiftwell come to the rescue!

This is a fantastic Lego set and it’s probably my favourite out of the new Cars 2 Lego sets that have been released, the detail is fantastic and the build is pritty straight forward although younger children may find some parts of the build a bit tricky.

Another strong feature of this Lego set is the characters you get with it, of course being in the Disney Pixar Cars universe you don’t get minifigures, instead you get actual cars and the Big Bentley Bust Out comes with a great selection including Finn McMissile, Lightning McQueen of course, Holley Shiftwell, Agent Matar, The Queen (yes, that’s right I did say the QUEEN) and
Miles Axlerod and Professor Z the evil baddie genius!

It looks like Sony have officially announced that Ghosterbusters 3 will be arriving in 2013!  Yes that’s right Ghostbusters 3 has a release date, or at least a release year!

Just take a look at this Licensing Trade magazine cut out from the Licensing International Expo is happening right now in Las Vegas.

Rumours have been persisting for years about a Ghostbusters 3and it seems that it is officially moving forward…I just hope that the studio doesn’t rush this and gets a kick-ass script in place first!

2012 The Hobbit and now 2013 Ghostbusters 3, I cannot wait!  For all collectors out there now would be a good time to start looking through ebay for the old retro ghostbusters toys as this news is going to kick off prices for the original stuff.

If you love Cars 2 and Monopoly then you will love the new Cars 2 Monopoly board game from Hasbro toys.

Now don’t start thinking that this is just going to be your typical bog standard Monopoly set because it isn’t, straight away you will notice that this monopoly board looks like a race track or a casino wheel, with the dice numbers displayed around the outside of the board and guess who the dice is?  Yes that’s right, Lightning McQueen is the dice and you just zoom him around the track and what ever number he lands on is how many spaces you move.

The idea around this monopoly set is that instead of collecting places and building houses and hotels, you collect characters from the Pixar movie and instead of putting houses down you put tyres and then when you upgrade you get a pittie. 

Kids will love this board game, it’s very bright, fun and easy to play, even the money aspect of the game is brought down to a child friendly range.  The Cars 2 Monopoly board game is suitable for children from 5 years and up, infact our youngest who is four and a half has loved playing this game and I have to admit I found it really fun too!

The first Disney Pixar Cars animated movie was a huge hit at the cinema and on DVD, but it was the Pixar Toys line that really became the mega-hit, Cars has been a huge hit with kids and adults all around the world and so with the release of Cars 2 at the cinema you just knew that the Cars 2 toys line wouldn’t be too far behind!

Now just like with every Disney Pixar animated movie the toys range can seem endless so here at the toys and gadgets blog we are going to highlight what we consider to be the very best toys from the new Cars 2 toys range starting off with the Cars 2 Secret Spy Attack Finn McMissile talking car from Mattel!

The Cars 2 Secret Spy Attack Finn McMissile car has had me excited ever since I got to play with it at this years Toy Fair, based on a new Character to the Cars universe Finn McMissile who just happens to be a British Secret Agent (think James Bond) and is voiced by the amazing Sir Michael Caine!

Straight away you can see where Pixar got the inspiration from for Finn McMissile and it reminds me straight away of James Bonds iconic Aston Martin in Goldfinger.

So let’s take a look at this ultra cool toy, just like James Bonds cars Finn McMissile is packed full of amazing great features that no spy should be without including as his name suggests missiles that rise up out of the front of the car just behind the front headlights, a bullet proof targeting visor which flips up from the back of the bonnet, a rear mounted missile that pops out of the boot and did we also mention that this fully loaded McMissile also talks!

That’s correct, this car also speaks, voiced by Michael Caine in the movie this Secret Spy Attack Finn McMissile  comes with numerous sayings including “This is top secret!” and ”We’re being followed!”.

N.B this car may also be called the Cars 2 Fully Loaded McMissile as seen on the Toys R Us website.

The new range of Transformers 3 Dark of the Moon Leader Class toys have been released with wave 1 including Leader Bumblebee and Leader Sentinal Prime!

It’s the Transformers 3 MechTech Leader Class Sentinel Prime that we will be taking a more indepth look at.  The Leader class range of toys are the biggest in the Hasbro line up with the exception of the Ultimate range!  You may remember the Ultimate Bumblebee that was released with the first Transformers movie, for Transformers 3 we will get to play with the Ultimate Optimus Prime figure which we are really excited about!

Anyway, back to the Leader Class Sentinel Prime figure, this is the first time that we have seen or got to collect Sentinel Prime so Transformers fans are going to go crazy for this toy.

The new leader sentinel prime figure comes equipped with the new Mechtech weapons system and Is with a range of great features such as the ability to speak, sound Fx when sentinel prime transforms, combat sound Fx and light up eyes. As we have just mentioned you also get the new Mechtech weapons system which is new for the Transformers three toys range, here even the weapons transform, sentinel primes shield converts into a bladed blaster.
So who exactly is Sentinel Prime?
Well sentinel prime has only been seen a few times in the actual Transformers comic books but plays a much larger role in the new Transformers three dark of the Moon movie.
So let’s take a look at sentinel prime in his vehicle mode, he is actually a Rosenbaur panther 6×6 fire truck and the detail on this firetruck is fantastic, painted in red and black the firetruck has two autobot logos on the rear of the truck and the writing fire rescue and 316 on both sides. The actual firetruck roles really well across the floor and is a great looking vehicle, on the roof of this fire engine you get an extendable firehose and which can also be rotated on. There is also a small grey button on the top of the fire engine cab which when pressed sounds off a fire engine siren and also the blue lights on the top flash which is a really cool additional feature.
There are a number of Mechtech weapon ports dotted around which when you fit the weapon makes the sounds change to battle Fx and then when you take the Mechtech weapon out you get the Transformers transforming sound which is really cool.
The actual transformation from the fire engine into the robot is quite straightforward, Hasbro recommends this toy for children of ages five and above.  The look of Sentinel Prime is very detailed and looks really good, the head sculpt is nicely detailed even though it is mainly paint and plastic.  The articulation is very good and you will be able to get Sentinal Prime into some great positions.  The main feature on Sentinel Prime is the button on his chest that makes him speak and also his eyes light-up.  When you add one of the mechtech weapons this also allows you to hear different sound fx and different voice clips, infact you get a total of 3 different voice clips with this figure.
All in all this a great addition to the Transformers 3 toys line and one that really stands out from the first wave of toys.  This is going to become the one figure that everyone is going to want to get hold of.

Transfomers 3 Mechtech Optimus Prime

The Transfomers 3 Mechtech optimus prime figure is part of the  new range of Hasbro Transformers 3 toys  that have just landed and the staff here at Toys and Gadgets are very excited! 

Based on the mega 2011 Summer blockbuster Transformers 3 Dark of the Moon which see’s Optimus Prime and the autobots racing against Megatron, Soundwave and the Decepticoms.

This Transfomers 3 Optimus Prime figure is part of the new mechtech range of figures which are basically like the previous voyager range but with the added addition of the Mechtechweapons system.  This mechtech weapon can be deployed and used with other mechtech transformers figures.

This Dark of the Moon Optimus Prime  figure transforms from robot mode to vehicle mode and you can switch his ion blaster to a battle canon.  This is a great addition to the previous voyager figures and even through there are some similarities Hasbro have gone in a great direction with this range.

Transformers 3 Mechtech Optimus Prime Review

So let’s take a more detailed look at the new Transformers 3 dark of the moon Mechtech Optimus Prime.  When I first saw the initial early leaked images of this figure, to say I was slightly underwhelmed was an understatement, but now having played with this cool figure for the last few days I have to say that Hasbro have done a great job for this size of figure, now let’s get this straight this is no leader class Optimus prime and the upcoming ultimate Optimus Prime is going to be out of this world, but what I love about the new Mechtech optimus prime is the playability of this figure, this is a really fun figure to play with kids as well as collectors are going to love it.

The detail on this figure is really cool, the head sculpt is one of the best I have seen on this size of figure and the detail on the chest plate and colouring looks really good. The arms are nice and chunky and the whole figure feels really well put together. Another great touch of this figure is the legs, which really look big which I like because if you notice in the movie Optimus prime’s legs are nice and big and it gives the figure stature over the other autobots.

Now the new edition to this figure obviously the Mechtech weapon, initially I was slightly worried about this, but once it’s fixed on Mechtech optimus prime it looks really cool, it really does give scope to the size of these characters. The articulation on this figure is really good, the head swivels all the way around, the arms rotate at the bicep and also at various other points including at the wrist which has a ball joint and for the first time Optimus prime can swivel at the waist at full 180°.

The actual transformation of this figure works really well and unlike some of the Transformers this is not complicated at all. All in all Transformers fans will be happy enough with this figure, there are better Optimus prime’s out there but not at this size and price point.

The Lego City Harbour is one of the main lego sets for Christmas 2011 and is part of the new Harbour extension to the Lego City universe.

We have already reviewed this set in detail over at kids top toys site so here is just a run down of what the Lego Harbour set features.

To start with you get 551 lego pieces and a grand total of 4 lego minifigures (which does seem a bit mean) consisting of the ships captain, the craine driver, the truck driver and the fisherman.

I have to admit out of all the minifigures I love the fishman who also comes with a working fishing rod!  The set features a total of 3 builds, the Harbour itself, the truck and the large cargo ship. 

As with most of the new 2011 Lego sets you also get a nice double sided poster included in the box.

So if you have ever wanted to run your own dock with the importing and exporting and the constant traffic of the large container ships then this is the Lego set for you.

Features of the Lego City Harbour includes the ability to use the crane to unload the grain from the cargo ship, then drop it onto the conveyor belt and move it into the awaiting truck. The chief officer keeps his dock running smoothly as trucks and ships come and go full of cargo, while a fisherman is busy catching his dinner on the pier!

Accessories included in the Lego 4645 set consist of a fishing rod, fuel tank, trash bin, pier elements, trolley, a rat and grain Store grain inside the ship’s compartments!

The new Lego Pirates of the Caribbean The Cannibal Escape is one of two sets, the other being the Lego Pirates of the Caribbean The Mill set, to be set around the second movie in the franchise known as ‘Dead Man’s Chest’.

Lego The Cannibal Escape, centres on Jack Sparrow who we find dressed as a Cannibal being freed from capture, after the cannibals find out that Jack isn’t a god, by Will Turner.

This really is a fantastic lego set and will be even more popular because of the Lego Cannibal Jack Sparrow minifigure which is only available with this lego set, this will go for alot on ebay!

Other great features on this set have to be the bone cage, which can be lifted and lowered on a pully.  The detail on this is fantastic, Lego really have done a fantastic job putting this set together.  We must also mention that you also get a Will Turner minifigure, this isn’t the only set that will is available in, you can get a different variation of will in the other Dead Man’s Chest set called Lego The Mill.

In total you get 4 minifigures with the Cannibal Escape set which consist of Cannibal Jack Sparrow (V.Rare – only available in this set), Will Turner and two different cannibals.  You also get some nice additional features like snakes, bones, skulls and a bird which is quite cool and a good addition.

Just like the other Lego Pirates sets, you will also get a double-sided poster in the box that features the Cannibal Escape scene on one side and a range of Lego pirates mini figures on the back.

I think this a fantastic lego set, it’s straight forward to build and more importantly it’s fun to build, the detail that Lego has added is amoung their best work and you really do get a feel for the whole set.  Priced under £30 and with around 2790 lego pieces Lego 4182 as it’s also known is a must-buy for your collection.
